Our services are geared towards small and medium-sized companies from emerging markets and developing countries with few or no existing contacts to Europe. Any company which fulfils our programme criteria can apply to IPD.

At the same time we contribute to strengthening the economic structures in our partner countries.

SIAL 2018: Product diversity from Ethiopia

Import Promotion Desk presents specialities from emerging markets and developing countries at the international food exhibition

Bonn/Berlin (Germany), 4 October 2018 – With “Worldwide Sourcing for Europe” as its motto, the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) together with the “Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries” (CBI), an import promotion programme from the Netherlands, will present regional producers from emerging markets and developing countries at SIAL. The exhibition, the leading food exhibition, will take place from 21 to 25 October 2018 in Paris.
26 exporters from Egypt, Ethiopia, Colombia, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Peru, Tunisia, and Mozambique will offer a wide product range of regional specialities. A special focus at the IPD exhibition stand will be on the IPD partner nation Ethiopia: teff and spices, beans and pulses, seeds and oilseed – the Ethiopian companies demonstrate the product diversity of this African country.

IPD exporters from Egypt and Tunisia visiting German and Dutch importers

Establishing contacts – presenting products – talking sales – this formed the focus of the Selling Mission to which IPD invited three Egyptian and two Tunisian suppliers to Europe. The exporters have been given the opportunity to present their products to interested importers from Germany and the Netherlands. Therefore, IPD has previously arranged meetings with suitable buyers.

Within five days, the international delegation has visited ten companies and presented their range of nuts and dried fruits in Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg, Amsterdam and other cities. The Egyptians particularly brought cashew cornels and dates as well as a wide range of different date products. The Tunisian on the other side encountered great interest with their organic certified products, including dried pomegranate seeds, dates and various date products. Both exporters and the visited importers have been very pleased with the outcome of the individually arranged B2B meetings.

“The personal visit to our company allowed us to comprehensively communicate our needs and requirements to the suppliers without any pressure of time. Thanks to the pre-selection of IPD, we can also be sure that the suppliers are reliable trade partners”, concludes Michael Hebendanz, CEO of Delphi Organic GmbH.

Furthermore, both sides praised the very suitable matchmaking conducted by IPD. Due to the carefully selected exporters, their product range coincided with the actual demand of the buyers. Thus the participants have been able to exchange their experiences directly and negotiate in a targeted manner. The basis for a long-term relationship has been build!

BIOFACH 2018: Comprehensive organic range from emerging and developing countries

Import Promotion Desk with organic producers from nine countries at BIOFACH

Bonn, 22 January 2018 – Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Peru, Tunisia, Serbia, and South Africa – the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) will be accompanied by organic producers from these countries at this year’s BIOFACH. More than 30 enterprises from nine countries will present their diverse range of organic produce at the joint stand shared by the IPD with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and at the respective national pavilions. The products include herbs, spices and tea, essential and coldpressed oils, cane and coconut blossom sugar, as well as fruit and vegetable specialities from the regions. The fair, the world’s largest showcase for organic food, will be held from 14 to 17 February in Nuremberg.

Establishing contacts to the right buyers

With 7,020 companies from more than 109 countries, the SIAL is one of the largest international marketplace for foodservice professionals. The focus of SIAL Paris/France is innovation in nutrition, design, retail, food service and ingredients.

At the 2018 event, the IPD will again present new, carefully selected and tested export companies from different partner countries like Egypt, Ethiopia, Colombia, Peru, Kyrgystan and Tunisia.
These exporters will have the opportunity to display their products, ranging from freeze-dried fruit, pulps and tea from Colombia, dried fruits and berries from Kyrgyzsan, to dates, herbs and spices from Egypt. Ethiopian companies will offer an exceptional range of oils made of black cumin, sesame or eucalyptus.

All exporters participating in the IPD programme will be well prepared for this event. Thus ensuring they are equipped with the required certificates for the European market and are familiar with the demands of the German trade sector.
Immediately before and during the fair the IPD will offer practical support for the exhibition, including e.g. compilation of current market information, guidance on stand decoration, sales training for successful communication with potential customers.
 
In particular, the IPD provides support through targeted matchmaking, identifying suitable German importers and arranging initial contacts before the fair begins, accompanying the b2b meetings during the event and supporting the follow-up after the fair is over.

The IPD is organizing a selling mission to “Fruit Attraction” – one of the leading trade fairs of the fruit and vegetable sector. More than 1,600 exhibiting companies and 70,000 professionals from 120 countries will gather in Madrid, Spain.

During a guided visit to “Fruit Attraction”, export companies of fruit and vegetables - participating in the IPD programme - get the opportunity to meet relevant market participants directly and in one place. The IPD conciliates appointments with potential business customers in the run-up to the trade fair – individually selected according to the exporters`offer. Exporters of our partner countries will learn about the European fruit and vegetable market and get an exclusive first-hand insight into the European business environment.
In addition, we organise a visit to Madrid’s biggest wholesale market to get an insight on that distribution hub, which is to be differentiated from the other channels (such as hypermarkets or discounters). Furthermore, the IPD arranges meetings with importing and distributing companies at the market.

Tropical timber from sustainably managed forests

IPD OPENS UP NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERUVIAN TIMBER EXPORTERS ON THE EU MARKET

The tropical rainforest is at risk from overexploitation and fire clearance, and this has brought trading in tropical timber into disrepute. Timber companies from countries like Peru therefore encounter difficulties in exporting their tropical wood products to the EU market. They are supported by the Import Promotion Desk (IPD), the precondition being that their timber is verifiably sourced from legal and sustainable forestry. Maderacre Rio Acre SAC is a company that meets the criteria of the FSC, demonstrating in practice that responsible forest management can help to protect the rainforest.

SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT THROUGH EXPORT PROMOTION

Within the framework of the “Nepal Trade Integration Strategy” GIZ and the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) are supporting a model project promoting the export of medicinal and aromatic plants. The project shows how specific sectoral support can help establish efficient value creation chains and enable Nepalese firms direct access to the German trade market. The half-time evaluation of the export promotion programme in Nepal showed that in 2016 alone Nepalese producers exported to the EU medicinal plant products worth 1.2 million Euros.

Organic herbs from Tunisia

HERBIOTECH’S EXPORT BUSINESS PROVIDES WORK FOR A WHOLE VILLAGE

Tunisia is an attractive procurement market for dried herbs. Yet this is a little-known fact for many German importers. Most only know of Tunisia as an important export nation for olive oil. In the Kairouan region, the exporter Herbiotech employs an entire village in the cultivation of organic herbs. The Import Promotion Desk (IPD) supports the Tunisian trader as they introduce their premium-quality products to the EU market.
